With westernization comes the adoption of nuclear system of families. People are running behind earning money, forgetting their parents who gave them such a blessed life, who nurtured them and sacrificed so much time, money and dreams just to fulfil the dreams of their children. Old parents are treated as a liability. We totally neglect the fact that with their wide experience and wisdom, they are an asset to the nation. We treat sending them away from home is an alternative to escape from our responsibilities. But is it humanity? Can we expect strangers to look after our parents? No, it is moral obligation of all of us to take care of those elderly souls who gave us everything just to make sure we lead a carefree life. We should curb the insecurity feeling amongst our older generations who have been either rejected by family members, or who really do not have anyone to take care off.
There are so many children who are parentless or whose parents are poverty struck and can’t cater to basic requirements of the kids. There are even single parents who can’t afford the health expenses of their kids who are suffering from health issues. Such kids need a safe environment, a shelter to sleep, food to eat and basic education. These are catered to by the orphanages. Sometimes, it is difficult for these kids to integrate with the larger society. They are deprived of personal care which affects their physical and mental health. There are many orphan kids who suffer due to depression, malnutrition and other preventable diseases. There are many orphanages operating in the nation, which require monetary support and other moral support to help serve the purpose. There is a need to help these children and help then grow responsible and healthy. They should not feel abandoned by their parents, rather they should feel they have led a healthy, responsible life and work hard to give back to the society. After all, these are the innocent souls and most deserving kids who are left to suffer.
Prerana has been associated with many orphanages and old age homes to keep these abandoned souls connected and happy. We had an opportunity to visit, Institution for mentally retarded Orphan Children and Old Age Home, Vasanth Pura, Uttarahalli Hobli, Bengaluru where we served food for the people. We are also associated with Belaku Old Age home, where every year we celebrate a blessed and joyful Ganesh Chaturthi with the senior citizens of the old age home. We visit the old age home very often and donate medicines, sponsor one day meal and spend quality time with them. We always return with the blessings of those contended hearts who treat us as their children. We also celebrate New Year’s at Belaku Old Age home, bringing a new hope of life for the inmates. We also visited Belaku Girl Orphanage where we donated stationary essential for their education and sponsored a day’s meal.
Prerana also had opportunities to visit Vatsalya Charitable Trust over the years where we conducted many cultural activities, provide educational support and sponsor meals. Prerana has been providing support to many other organizations like Sai Old Age home, Basaweshwarnagar, Orphanage Chamundeshwari Trust, Mattikere, Sri Krishna Anatha Shishunivasa, Uttarahalli and Sneha Jyoti Orphanage.
